MISSION, VISION & VALUES
at The Bridge
Our Mission
Our mission is to build a church to the glory of God by reaching lost people with the good news of Jesus and turning them into fully devoted followers of Christ.
Our Vision
Our vision is to be an ever expanding family of fully devoted, outwardly focused, self-sacrificing followers of Christ who are growing in our love for God and each other, demonstrating God’s great love and compassion to the world by word and by deed, on our way to heaven and enjoying the journey.
Our Values
1. We value people. We value people because it is people for whom Jesus died. We value lost people, saved people, young people and old people. We value single people, married people, divorced people and widowed people. We value people of every ethnic and socioeconomic background. We value people who do not agree with our beliefs or practices and while love does not mean we condone that which God condemns, we will do our best to love everybody that God loves - which is everybody.
2. We value authenticity. We want to be real and honest in everything we do. We don’t want to pretend we are more than we are. We want to be honest about our weaknesses, our mistakes and our failures, knowing that God already knows our weaknesses and accepts us where we are in order to take us where we’ve never been.
3. We value community. We believe that God’s highest good for each of us can only be realized in community. Since the majority of the commandments of Scripture can only be fulfilled in relationship with others, we want to do life together and grow in our love for each other, knowing that by loving one another, the world will know Jesus came from the Father.
4. We value the ministry of all believers. We believe that God has endowed each and every member of His church with certain gifts, talents and abilities and that everybody gets to get in the game. Our desire is to help people discover, develop and deploy their unique talents and abilities in service to God and others.
5. We value generous living. While the world lives to acquire and hoard, we believe the kingdom of God is characterized by giving. “For God so loved the world that He gave...(John 3:16)” “It is more blessed to give than to receive (Acts 20:35).” While we don’t subscribe to a philosophy of poverty, we believe that “to whom much is given, much is required (Luke 12:48).” Here in the U.S. we have been entrusted with much of the world’s wealth and believe that this brings a very certain responsibility to do as much good as possible with the resources God has placed in our possession.
6. We value global ministry. As God communicated to William Carey, the father of modern missions: “If it be the duty of all men to believe the gospel ...then it is the duty of those who are entrusted with the gospel to endeavor to make it known among all nations.” “All nations” refers not just to geographical boundaries, or political entities, but all ethnic groups. Jesus said, “And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world, as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come (Matthew 24:14).” Jesus won’t return until all have heard, and so we must be involved in helping all hear.
Our Five Purposes
We believe that God has revealed certain components that are essential for a healthy church. We will do our best to keep these five purposes at the forefront and in proper balance in all we do.
1. Worship
We believe worship is at the heart of a relationship with God. The God revealed in Scripture is infinitely holy and good and is therefore worthy of all adoration and praise. Worship is the one activity that existed before the world was made and will exist through all eternity. We believe worship involves more than just singing, but involves lives fully surrendered and devoted to God.
2. Discipleship
The Great Commission involves not just introducing people to Christ, but teaching them to observe all that Jesus commanded. In order to produce fully devoted followers of Christ, we will give priority to the teaching of God’s Word with the goals being the application of truth and real life change.
3. Prayer
Prayer is the primary means by which we commune with God, as well as the means by which we partner with God in bringing His will to pass in the earth. Jesus modeled and taught His followers to be people of prayer, therefore we will endeavor to make prayer a vital part of all we do.
4. Community
God created man for community and church is to be a place where people come to “do life together.” It is in the context of Christian community that we are able to live out what God’s Word teaches by loving, serving, encouraging and building up one another. This is why small groups are central to The Bridge.
5. Outreach
The Great Commission requires that we do all we can to reach others with the message of God’s love and salvation. This involves getting out of our comfort zones and taking the message of Jesus to a lost world. This we will do in word as well as by acts of service.
